Reading the book or watching the movie

Reading vs. Watching: The Death Match 

Which one do you prefer? Reading a book and fuddle your brain or merely watching the movie adaptation with a carton of popcorn as your companion? The latter may sound promising and relaxing to most teenagers¾the prospect of sitting in bliss with food in hand is simply too much.

And yet there are humongous differences between these two seemingly obvious choices.  It is never denied and yet never stated that you need less brain capacity to watch a movie than to read a novel.  People may say that watching the movie is similar¾or even more enjoyable¾to reading the original novel.  “Of course it will be the same! Don’t movies come from books?”

Ah.  That is where the biggest difference lies.

Have you ever thought, ‘I don’t like the main character’s face….  If only he were a bit more good-looking….’? Aside from Hollywood’s gorgeous faces, you are bound to dislike at least one of those faces.  What will you be able to do if you see one of those disliked faces all splashed before you, ruining a perfectly wonderful plot and the special effects?

Well, it is to be assured that this kind of incident never happens if you opt for the book choice instead.  This is where books’ main advantage lies.  This is where it never fails to satisfy the readers.  This is the main reason why people still love to read despite today’s technology of filming.  You can imagine all the scenes and the characters’ faces as what you want.  Books never fail to go in the same pathway as your imagination.  Descriptions may be scribbled on the pages, yet people always think differently, and they always think according to their own imagination.  It is like watching a movie in your head, except where all the scenes happen according to you and all the appearances and grandeur are up to your capability to dream.

A movie is one man’s imagination only: the director.  What about a book? A book is its author’s imagination.  It is then handed to its readers, and it becomes its readers’ imagination.  It can be anyone’s imagination.  It allows you to fantasize all you like, while a movie will limit you to visuals and sounds, which are fully arranged by a single man a.k.a. the director.

Now, that you have known all of that, which one will you choose? Limited or unlimited?

I prefer watching a movie than reading a book because I can better understand the story.
Reading a book sometimes doesn't make me understand the story because I can't easily imagine what is written there, while watching a movie sometimes makes me fail to get the idea of the whole story because what is told in a movie isn't as complete as what is written in a book.
However, if I get a chance to make a choice, I would like to read a book first then watching the related movie.

I prefer to read a book than to watch a movie.

 

     I prefer a book, because it increases your vocabulary and gets your imagination skills working. Everybody can imagine, but if you don't train to use it often. You won't be able to imagine things, when you need to.In exams the teacher will test the amount of vocabularies that you know,if you know more words than the other people. Of course, the examiner will give you a better score, that is usually the effect on reading and watching. Watching is only listening and seeing pictures flash on the screen. But reading, you inrease your vocabularies, because frequently the author of the book writes base on there abilities, which is higher than our skill. that is why we learn by reading. also movies are somebody else's imagination and way of thinking. if we read, we can create a different point of view than the director of a movie. We create a picture in our mind to form a story that we read and understand using our imagination not somebody else's.

 

That is my opinion about "which do i prefer: reading or watching a movie?"

prefer watching movies because we can learn the character of the actors and actresses. And we can understand easily the story line. Watching movie is more exciting than reading a book because at movies we can see the action and hear the music at the same time. We can remember more the interesting scene. Watching movies is not boring and not sleepy. And we can do a listening practice while watching movie. Watching movie is more fun than reading a book because we can watch together with our parents and with our friends and we can also eat some popcorn and drinks some soft drinks. We can watch movies several times through local television, cable television, DVD, and VCD.

I more like read a book. I like read a book because if I read a book I can make my own imagination, but if I watch movie that’s have been create from other people imagination. I can read anytime I want, it’s really flexible and helping for me, because I have lots of homework. So I should manage my time. If I read a book that’s give me practice to more creative in imagine something happen in the book. Book is a window of the world. And book give me the complete story of the book, but film don’t. it’s make me more easily to understand about the book about.

I prefer to watch the movie because if I read the book / novel sometimes I don't know the meaning of the story because of the vocab that I don't understand. But if I watch the movie, I can understand the story clearly. I can see the real thing from the acting of the actor/actress.

I don't choose both of them, because sometimes I prefer to read book but sometimes I prefer to watch movie.
Maybe, many people prefer to watch movie than read books. And if we asked to them, why they prefer to watch movie than read book, I'm sure that most of them will answered that they easily get bored when they read book.
But for me, when I think that the story are good and the book are not so thick, I will prefer to read the book. But when I like the story but the book are so thick, i'll prefer to watch the movie.

I wanted to share my opinion about the Skill of Reading.

 

I prefer to reading the book because if we read the book, we must create our own imaginary based on the book. People imagination is different from other imagination. When we read a book , our imagination is not stopped by other people.

 

Reading the book is also useful to practice our imagination.

 

But if we watch a movie, it means that we see people imaginary of a story. The movie may stop our imaginary.

 

Some books can make us feel relax or change the person’s mood, for example the Harry Potter.

I like movie rather than book. because I think that book was too boring and movie was life in action. When I'm reading a book, in the middle, I will forget the beginning of the story. Sometimes when I'm reading an English novel, just the small one, I will be bored. because sometimes, novel's English language was difficult to be understand, but movie, they've got the subtitles and the picture. So, it will be easier to understand.

I prefer reading the book than watching the movie because usually in the movie some parts are added or taken away from the original story. According to me, sometimes the book is better because the information we are given are clear, full, and just like what the author wanted. Besides that, when reading a book, we are allowed to use our imagination and imagine the settings and characters the way we wanted. On the other hand, when watching a movie, we are just looking at someone else's imagination and how they imagined the story.

When I read a book I can use my imagination to imagine the story and that make me more get involve into the story. But when I watch the movie I only can see the imagination from another people and I can't get in more deeply into the story and I can be borring. But usually people more like to watch the movie than read a book, because they don't have time to read and imagine the story.

Hello, I'm Ivan from class 7E. I prefer watching movies to reading books. Because by watching movis, we don't need to read books that make we tired and if we watched movies, we doesn't need to imagine. I know sometimes my imagination is better than the director's immagination. But, if I must to read a book, I prefer comics to novel. I sometimes read comics for fun. Because there were pictures in there. And not so muchwords in there. But, if novel, we must imagine and it can spend about 1 week to finish one novel.

When I read the history book, its make me feel like I live in the past right now. I like science because sometimes science need an experiment.
